| Notes | Vital to society |
A nitronium reactor is vital to Commonwealth society. It uses Nitronium to generate power based on it's size, for example a 3 cubic meter reactor generates about 1 MWh, but a 15 cubic meter reactor generates about 35 MWh. These reactors are used by all shipyards, most settlements and cities and as backup generators for buildings.
Invention
The Nitronium reactor was invented by BlueCorp Technologies engineers at R&D site 29 Beta, located on Genesis Prime. The first reactor had a chamber volume of 3 cubic meters and generated at most 1 MWh.
Widespread adaption
After testing concluded at Site 29B, The patent for Nitronium and the reactor tech were released to the public in 2912 GST. Shortly after, all major companies started building reactors to power Genesis Prime. This, except for BlueCorp, who started building reactors for spaceflight.
Planetside
After 30 years, in the year 2942 GST, the entirety of Genesis Prime was powered by these reactors, some of them able to generate over 1 TWh of power. This effectively stopped global warming[1] on the planet before it caused too much damage.
Aerospace
BlueCorp Technologies started powering their satellites with Nitronium reactors in 2953 GST, These were pretty primitive compared to what we have today[2] as gravity generation technology was still in it's infancy an incredibly expensive to build. This is why the reactor in the probe had to be disabled when it was moved. This was the first step to develop reactors that were powerful enough to support full scale starships.
In the Year 3001 GST, the first commercial starship, the BlueCorp Explorer class, was put for sale to the public. This ship had no FTL capabilities, so BlueCorp recommended the ship for short range travel. Later, in 3296 GST, the first test of the Jaguar program by BlueCorp was conducted, This was the first test of the Impulse Engine, this test failed annd the probe was destroyed. But in 3319 GST, The first successful Inpulse jump was made by the Jaguar IX probe, which was put on course to the asteroid belt on the border of the Prime system.
